NaviGators, Faculty Advisors, and Gator Guides, Oh My!

Everyone needs a team behind them, and at Russell Sage College, we see the value in getting a team behind our students.

The Gator Gateway, our curated undergraduate experience designed for student success, includes a team of staff and student support people to help every student reach their fullest potential.

Hi, my name is Joe. I'm a sophomore psychology major. And I love doing eSports here on campus. You remember when you were really nervous about that one thing, and then you met another person that was really nervous about that one thing, and then you guys came together and you guys realize that there's not really anything to worry about?

That's what "Navigators" are for. Gators stick together! Literally, real science facts. Alligators are social animals and hangout in pecs called "congregations." So we want to make sure new students feel like they have a person to go to for help. New students can lean on Navigators if they need help with advice, tips, or other questions. Meet Mena. She's a Navigator.

    Hi!

So what were you most nervous about starting college?

Um, coming in as a freshman majoring in bio, it was hard for me to choose what future plan or paths to go into. I was very nervous about meeting new people in a new environment.

So what's your advice to students now?

Just go for it. And don't be afraid to try new things!

Smart. Guess that's why they call her a Navigator. And you will find your way too. And we're here to help. And because we're kind of extra, we also wanted to make sure that every new student had access to their "Gator Guide." The Gator Guide is an another way for us to use the word "Gator" again, it's a staff member in the college that assist students and answer questions that maybe the Navigators can't or they're your go-to person if you're more comfortable talking to a member of Russell Sage staff.

And, because we're extra extra, every student is also assigned a Faculty Advisor. This person will help you with academic scheduling, thinking about your career goals, and will be another resource for you throughout your time at Russell Sage.

The Navigators, your Gator Guide, and your Faculty Advisor are all part of your team. And there's no I in team but if you get rid of the A and the T, flip the M over to a W, and switch it with an E that spells, "We." And we're in this together. And you know what else there's no I in? Gator.
