Hi, I'm Morgan, a junior expressive arts and mental health major. I'm also part of the theatre Institute at Sage and a Navigator here on campus. Welcome to the Gator Gateway!
We start your journey as a Russell Sage student in the best way possible -- with a box of free stuff! You'll get your welcome box over the summer. It's packed with things that help you show your Sage Gator Spirit. It's also got something else really important -- a copy of the Dean's summer read. That's the book that all new students and a bunch of the faculty and staff you'll meet at Russell Sage will read. You'll talk about it and how the themes relate to your own story when you get to campus.
The staff at Sage spend a lot of time thinking about just the right book because they want it to mean something. In the summer, you'll attend an orientation, and then have another orientation session when you get to campus. It's all about helping you get adjusted. You'll meet our Navigators. But, more on that later. And that first week of classes will have a bunch of activities like a river cruise and cookouts that'll help you meet people. On your first day of classes, you'll attend "Fresh Check Day." Fresh Check is really important because it's a good way to tap into the resources you need. Hey Tawana, what is Fresh Check Day?
Fresh Check Day creates an approachable and hopeful atmosphere to engage in dialogue about mental health and the mental health resources available on campus and in the community. This uplifting mental health promotion and suicide prevention event has interactive booth, free food entertainment, exciting prizes, giveaways, and tons of safe swag.
You'll also start taking RSC 101, which will help you get ready for college life with study skills, time management tips, and form. We have more on the RSC Thread later. I know, so much suspense!
