Welcome to the Gator Gateway tutorial. Even though college is isn't a game, it helps you level up in life. And a big piece of that is getting the education you need for the career you want. Meet Carleen, the Director of the Career and Self-Discovery Center at Russell Sage. You'll see Carleen and the center staff in your RSC 101, 201, 301 classes but you can always visit them on the Troy or open campus or on Zoom.
So, how do they help you level up? They will work with you and help you understand your skills, what you value, and do the activities like self-assessment and determine your strengths. The Career and Self-Discovery Center also provides students access to Focus2 for free. Focus2 is an online tool that helps students who have trouble figuring out what they want to major in or what career is going to be right for them.
You can even take it a step further and shadow an alumni or do an internship in your field of interest to figure out what really fits you. They'll also help you use Handshake. It's the One Stop Career Center resource and national online program that's exclusive for the colleges who use it. It's kind of like LinkedIn, but for colleges.
All Sage students have a Handshake profile already and that is exactly how you get a job on campus. They can also help you level up your resume and practice interviewing so you're ready and secure for your internship or student teaching, depending on your major.
The Career and Self-Discovery Center even offers a free Career Closet to get you looking your best. And lastly, don't forget your resume when you hit two the on-campus job fair. With these experiences, you'll soon have everything you need to level up in life and become one of the 96% of students who secure a job or are accepted to graduate school after graduation.
